I had the impression that John Dashwood was based at least partly on JA's rich brother Edward, but I see now that the models for John and Fanny may have been more definite and closer to home! It just goes to show - never tick off a writer, because s/he *will* get back at you, and probably more thoroughly and more lastingly than you ever imagined! ;-)
