That's the problem with intrepreting some of these passages, isn't it ?

Some phrases are out and out funny/clear but a lot are capable of more than one reading or are seemingly impenetrable.

I'm sure poor old Jane was being entierly scarcastic here. A carriage on snowy, mostly unmade lanes, in quite hilly terrain ? What on earth would poor Mr Woodhouse have said?
