These are lovely Georgian family portraits & illustrations of children playing...I didn't realize very young boys of JA's era wore dress with sash.

I notice JA mentions 'the pattern of the Jacket & Trousers,...., that Eliz's boys wear when they are first put into breeches'.
Presumably, this 1801 reference by Jane is to paper patterns for making up clothes.

( In S&S, the Steele sisters trace patterns around Lady Middleton's gowns.)
