I'm confused about the numbers of the letters in the GR. I conscientiously read letters 29 & 30 in the Brabourne edition linked at the head of this board, then I couldn't make head or tail of the discussion. You all seem to be discussing letters 25 & 26. Am I being peculiarly dense here?

On a different tack, I'm really appreciating all your lovely background information Julie W. Poring over Carey's map I noticed that both Steventon and Chawton are about 50 miles from London, which gives extra resonance to Darcy's comment about "fifty miles of good road". JA obviously knew exactly what that meant in practical terms.
