My guess - JA hoped Cassandra was impressing people   Written by Tracy W (9/16/2007 2:32 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I find the sentence somewhat..., penned by Reeba
Are you new?

As Mandy N says, wearing a white gown was fashionable back then. I think by "gay parties" JA is referring to a series of other guests who were visiting Edward and Elizabeth. It sounds like Cassandra talked about visitors in the last letter JA got from her.

So my guess is that JA was teasing Cassandra by saying that she hoped she had "dressed to impress" her brother's visitors.
