Letters 29 and 30: Sad Little Entry in the Deane Parish Register   Written by JulieW (9/16/2007 1:26 p.m.)
Are you new?

The Reverend George Austen perfomed his last baptism at Deane on Saturday 6th December 1800.

The child being baptized was named William Wodehouse.....intereresting ;-)

However ,the really sad part about this baptsim for me is that it is thought by Austen scholars that the entry in the Parish regsiter recording this event was made by Jane Austen.
( see page 250 A Chronology of Jane Austen and her Family. by Deirdre Le Faye)

She must have accompained her father to his last baptism at the Parish church at Deane.
