I agree. Just JA playing with language.   Written by Mary Ellen (12/3/2006 1:22 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, To me..., penned by Joan Ellen
Are you new?

I see JA taking lots of twists and turns in the way she uses language. She plays up the misunderstandings that written language can generate. Here I see her writing a little three sentance plot. First she builds suspense, "Mrs. Knights giving up the Godmersham Estate to Edward was no such prodigeous act of Generosity after all it seems." Then she presents the climax of the plot, "for she has reserve herself an income out of it still." Then she wraps it up with a conclusion, "this ought to be known, that her conduct may not be over-rated."
