And what is fifty miles of good road?   Written by Robbin (12/2/2006 12:11 p.m.)
Are you new?

Three of the Miss Debaries called here the morning after my arrival, but I have not yet been able to return their civility;--You know it is not an uncommon circumstance in this parish to have the road from Ibthrop to the Parsonage much dirtier & more impracticable for walking than the road from the Parsonage to Ibthrop. (Letter 28)

LoL—it seems the Miss Debaries do not rate very highly with JA. In Letter 27 JA informs Cassandra that she could only be civil to Miss Debary and sisters Susan & Sally as their bad breath would allow. I have to agree with JA on this point, the trip somewhere you do not wish to go is always more arduous than one with a pleasant destination or going home certainly. I cannot say how many times the miles lengthened or shortened for me depending on the expectation of an event. ;D
