If you can just bear with me, Mandy   Written by JulieW (12/1/2006 4:39 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Paragraphs in JA's letters., penned by Mandy N
Are you new?

a little while I request Myretta's kind assistance in putting up some scans of thse letters from Jo Modart's book of Jane Austen's Manuscript Letters in Facsimile, all will be made clear.

A picture is worth a thousand words, or so they say :-0

Letter 24 has a paragraph written ( upside down)above the saluatation, and has a postscript paragraph written under the addess panel( which woud have been folded and hidden from publlic view.

Letter 25 is crossed, and is terribly hard to read as a consequence,IMHO.

It also has extra paragraphs above the salutation and below the address panel( which, once again, would have been hidden when the letter was folded and sealed.

This brings home how important it was to try and limit the amount of paper one used when writing a letter, don't you think?
