Near the end of letter 24, JA wrote:

My Mother is very happy in the prospect of dressing a new Doll which Molly has given Anna. My father's feelings are not so enviable; as it appears that the farm cleared 300 pounds last year.

Do I gather that Mr. Austen was hoping for considerably more than 300 pounds, and what farm exactly was she talking about?
