in consequence of the missive, The quality of the music at the Sydney Gardens, penned by Line
For example, the famous Linley family of composers and performers including the brilliant Elizabeth Linley who became Mrs Richard Sheriden were based in Bath (shown above, as painted by Gainsborough, who also lived in Bath and was himself an amateur musician, and was great friends with the Linley family : the original of this portrait, you may be interested to know is now in the National Gallery of Art Washington D.C.) Thomas Linley Junior was known as "the English Mozart",but sadly died prematurely; he drowned in the lake at Grimsthorpe Castle,Lincolnshrie Go here for more about him: http://www.rslade.co.uk/linley/ Go here to the Dulwich Picture Gallery to see Gainsborough's portrait of Thomas Linley( if you search on "Gainsborough" at this site other members of the family will be revealed :-) http://www.dulwichpicturegallery.org.uk/collection/search/display.aspx?irn=54&QueryPage=%2Fdtlquery.aspx Perhaps JA only liked capital perfromances, and these may not have been avaialble in the Gardens?
