This place had a special significance in JA's life as her parents were married there.
Here is a copy( fuzzy- I do apologise) of the Austen's entry in the Marriage Register,which I thought you might be interested to see.
JA's parents were married at the church by the Right Reverend Thomas Powys who was a kinsman of JA's mother, and it has been suggested(See JAS Report (1993)p290) a one time suitor of that lady.
Whatever, he remained on good terms with the family. He eventually became Dean of Canterbury Cathedral, and was godfather to JA's brother, Henry.
And, of course, in 1799 JA could not envisage that St Swithin's would be her father's final resting place: he was buried there in 1805.
Here is a picture of the plaque commemmorating him, which was erected there by the combined generosity of JAS ,JASNA and JASA.
