The Tamar and Westward Written by Deborah Julia (11/27/2006 10:49 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Charles and the Tamar, penned by Joan Ellen

From "Jane Austen and the Navy", Brian Southam page 65, the Tamar was at Deal and Charles's preference was to join the ship at Portsmouth (Westward of Deal?) because Portsmouth was more convenient for Steventon, for traveling presumably, rather than Deal.
