Another description of the Kempshott ball   Written by JulieW (11/26/2006 12:40 p.m.)
Are you new?

is to be found in the pocket books kept by Mrs William John Chute( nee Elizabeth Smith)in the Chute family archives.

The Chute family owned The Vyne and were part of the county set in JA's neighbourhood.

Here is what she had to say about the ball:

Cold thaw with some rain a falling fog & much rain towards evening, froze at night when we returned home.

Went to Ly Dorchester's ball Emma with me, a good one.

Soups and sandwiches for supper .

Staid till 3.

Danced with Mr Clark & Mr Errington, Elchos Bolton Lefroys Blackstones & there

Isn't it interesting that JA doesn't mention the weather ,which would have made travellign in a coach quite difficult?
