In letter 17, JA wrote that:

I do not like the Miss Blackstones; indeed I was always determined not to like them, so there is the less merit in it.

This reminds me of ch.8 in P&P, where seeing the Bingley sisters’ behaviour towards Jane “restored Elizabeth to the enjoyment of all her original dislike”, and also ch.33 of "Emma" - "Emma was not required, by any subsequent discovery, to retract her ill opinion of Mrs. Elton", though I don’t think either young lady was determined to dislike the person(s) in question before she met them!
