Gowns & Money--Letter 15   Written by Robbin (9/3/2005 3:10 a.m.)
Are you new?

“…that you should mediate the purchase of a new muslin Gown are delightful circumstances.—I am determined to buy a handsome one whenever I can, & I am so tired & ashamed of half my present stock that I even blush at the sight of the wardrobe which contains them.”

This is very funny and a little sad to me but I have to wonder how much she minded her financial circumstances—I mean everyone would like to have more money but did it make her really unhappy—it does not seem so in her letters so far. She has talked of the need for money occasionally; I think once about the early arrival of a peddler and being unable to buy lace, I am sure there are others but have I missed anything particular that obviously points the other way?—(except perhaps TL)

If JA had money would Mrs. Lefroy have ended JA’s and TL’s budding attachment? However after reading different threads during this group read I am not at all sure anymore that JA regretted the ending of it very long. I hope we receive some further information on how she feels about TL in future letters—he gets married after all and you would think she would express something to CEA on that subject.
