An abominable sort of conceited independence!   Written by Robbin (9/3/2005 3:04 a.m.)
Are you new?

Letter 14

“I enjoyed the hard black Frosts of last week very much, & one day while they lasted walked to Deane by myself—I do not know that I ever did such a thing in my life before.”

I am not sure if she is being sarcastic because she walks alone all the time or if it is just straight forward? Or is she talking of going so far in the cold? However, there is Elizabeth Bennet to be thought of walking three miles to Netherfield to visit Jane.

Black frost—a dry freeze without the protective formation of hoarfrost that results in the internal freezing and death of vegetation. (American Heritage Dictionary)
