teh Ł7 was probably quite a lot;-)

JA at this time was receiving Ł20 per annum allowance from George Austen.

This he could only affrod to pay quarterly.

So JA must have saved some money from her allowance ,as she now was in possession of Ł7!!

Of course Thomas Knight on his death in 1794, had bequeathed a legacy of Ł50 to her ( and also bequeathed a similar legacy to Cassandra) so perhaps she had saved some of that.

That Ł50 BTW, was the largest sum of money JA had received in her life .
