teh £7 was probably quite a lot;-)

JA at this time was receiving £20 per annum allowance from George Austen.

This he could only affrod to pay quarterly.

So JA must have saved some money from her allowance ,as she now was in possession of £7!!

Of course Thomas Knight on his death in 1794, had bequeathed a legacy of £50 to her ( and also bequeathed a similar legacy to Cassandra) so perhaps she had saved some of that.

That £50 BTW, was the largest sum of money JA had received in her life .
