OK. I am officially confused   Written by Golda (9/1/2005 4:04 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Which all calls into question, penned by JulieW
Are you new?

These varied references from Tomalin, Modert and LeFaye are confusing me. Unless some as yet undiscovered information surfaces, we are left to draw our own conclusions based on these viewpoints.

It makes more sense to me that entire letters would be destroyed rather than lines cut out. In view of my understanding of how two close sisters (or very good friends!) correspond, I can well imagine that some of JA's letters were best not left for posterity.

Until Julie posts another reference to confuse me further ;-) I am of the view that letters went into the 19th century shredder -- the fireplace.
