I really didn't mean to make that connection. I wanted to suggest that perhaps JA thought of flannel as contemptible because it was something elderly men and women had to wear to fight off rheumatism, and therefore not something a *young* lady would like to buy. I mean, she *might* have been buying flannel for making up some article of warm clothing... mightn't she?
