"I gave 2s/3d a yard for my flannel & I fancy it is not very good; but it is so disgraceful and contemptible an article in itself, that its' being comparatively good or bad is of little importance."

Is this flannel she would need for monthly use? If so I can relate to her contempt of it! Just so. Very refreshing to know that a woman was complaining about spending money on the same thing I was complaining about just last month.

I also like how she goes right on to the more light-hearted comment of blacking her hat, "on which [her] principal hopes of happiness depend."
