Welcome Info   Written by BarbaraB (8/31/2005 10:48 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Rescuing Cassandras reputation., penned by JulieW
Are you new?

I had just been looking around to find out if any of Cassandra's letters to Jane had survived. In almost every letter Jane writes she references something which Cassandra wrote or that she expects to hear from her sister soon and it got me curious to know if there were any of Cassandra's to be read. I imagine she wrote at least as many as Jane did since it was pretty much a back and forth thing. I was thinking also about why Cassandra might want to get rid of/edit some of them. I like the idea that most likely it wasn't her after all. As I was reading today's set of letters I couldn't help but think that when reading Jane's letters it is like listening in on intimate converstations even though they are one-sided. I found myself lamenting the fact that Cassandra's are gone. Imagine what a wonderful thing it would be if the sisters' letters could be read interweaved as they wrote them to each other. Wishful thinking... :-) Thanks for this information.
