...that these sorts of remarks were made only to those with whom she was intimate. Mary Crawford improperly talks of 'Rears and Vices' to a male acquaintance not related to her (by which, I think, JA was telling us something about her character) but I believe JA would be more circumspect except with people she knew very well indeed.
