Tripping on the tongue   Written by gkb (8/31/2005 8:21 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, 'one wife between them'. Letter 6, penned by Reeba
Are you new?

To me it sounds as if JA wrote that the two sons were both to be married, stopped, looked at the sentence, laughed at the ambiguity of the phrase, and instead of telling the names of the women they were planning to marry, simply asserted that they were both going to marry the same woman, laughed agai and went gaily on to the next sentence.
