In less than perfect lighting etc. but   Written by Jean B (8/30/2005 3:10 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I should have thought it was hard, penned by JulieW
Are you new?

If it were a letter from a dear sister or friend, the time would be well spent. I have always wondered how a day would be spent. We read letters quickly and easily. Letters for JA & CEA were an investment in time and patience. A true "gift" to be read and re-read (maybe to get the correct meaning).

Someone (I forget who) said they pcitured JA with a letter always at hand, did it maybe go the other way also, that a person kept the letter handy and worked on it over a period of time?

I had a Professor who I corresponded with and she sometimes did the extra paragraphs in odd places at the end of a letter, what with her horrible andwriting and chasing the end of the letter, they were investments in time - but so worth the effort. I used to think about our 18 & 19th centruy "friends" when I read her letters.
