Oh yes,   Written by Robbin (8/30/2005 2:20 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, What we owe Cassandra..., penned by Mandy N
Are you new?

I agree with you—is there a CEA dedication page for all she has given us? Although we lament the loss of the writings she destroyed, the very act shows the devotion she had for her beloved sister’s reputation, legacy, and memory after her death. I forgot to add this above. I wonder if CEA had known how famous JA would become, if she would have thought twice about censoring and destroying any of the letters. If her purpose was to protect JA then maybe nothing would have stopped her. How could she envision that society would change so much that many of the things she thought should be kept secret would not even raise an eyebrow or that 200 years later we would be devouring these bits of their lives with relish—-maybe the thought of so many strangers viewing the letters would have urged her on to censor even more.
