Letter 6: Joke about Edward Knight   Written by Cheryl (8/30/2005 10:27 a.m.)
Are you new?

I just snorted over Jane's joke about Edward changing his name to Claringbould (a la from Austen to Knight) in order to get the deceased man's property. What a wickedly sly thing to say! ;-)

I wonder if it doesn't expose just the tiniest bit of rancor over the adoption?

...Mr Claringbould's Funeral which we saw go by on Sunday. I believe I told you in a former Letter that Edward had some idea of taking the name of Claringbould; but that scheme is over ... and unless it is in your power to assist your Brother with five or six Hundred pounds, he must entirely give up the idea.

LOL!
