Mr. Richard Harvey is going to be married; but as it is a great secret, & only known to half the neighbourhood, you must not mention it.

I too laughed out loud at this comment. It made me think of a small-town community where there is no such thing as a secret (I grew up in one of those places so I was well aware of the truth behind the comment).

Also, the comments about Richard and his name reminded me of NA and the comment she makes about Catherine's father - though his name was Richard - I love that she continuously pokes fun at the name.
