Letter 6 - poor Richard!   Written by LaurieC (8/30/2005 9:30 a.m.)
Are you new?

"Mr. Richard Harvey's match is is put off, till he has got a Better Christian name, of which he has great Hopes."

Jane's treatment of the name Richard is sometimes less than complimentary (as in NA), and I'm thinking the above sentence is more of the same (unless I'm misreading it). Does anyone know what it stems from, or is it a family joke?
