Jane's tribute to Mrs Lefroy.   Written by Mandy N (8/30/2005 6:30 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, I agree, penned by Line
Are you new?

How Jane could remain close friends with Anne Lefroy has confused me as well.
This good friend and neighbor who seperated Tom from Jane and sent him off to London !

(A little Miss Bingley/Darcy seperating Jane and Bingley in P&P ?)

However, according to my edition, after Mrs Lefroy's sudden death, Jane remained long inconsolable for her.

'Beloved friend,
four years have passed away,
Since thou wert snatched forever from my eyes'.

_'My Dear Cassandra'
Penelope Hallet-Hughes, (p.23)

This is JA's only serious poem. Perhaps it is also a tribute to Jane as well. Clearly, she continued to cherish her close relationship with Mrs Lefroy --as Anne Elliot did with Lady Russell.

*I don't know if Cassandra's letters shed any further light on Jane's and Mrs Lefroy's friendship.
