...it was JA who didn't take the bait. She had probably already dreamed up some ideal men in her imagination even before she wrote her novels - and what man real man could compete with a JA hero? ;-)

After all, we already 'know to a certainty that she refused one man, at least, of better pretensions' than Charles Fowle...
