Godmersham thoughts   Written by Carolyn Ruth (8/29/2005 1:17 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Godmersham, penned by JulieW
Are you new?

What a very lovely place! It always makes me wonder... How could Edward be so very, very well-off, and not settle some living on Jane and Cassandra so they would have the freedom to choose where and when to travel or stay? I understand he had a responsibility to his children and wife, but surely he must have had something left over to give financial independence to sisters with whom he clearly had a good relationship. It strikes me as being an awful lot like the scene between John Dashwood and his wife Fanny in S+S. I wonder if that scene caused any discomfort between Elizabeth Knight and JA?
