I am having a bit of a problem to connect events and to understand descriptions, like the one you have quoted, about London.
I looked up the notes to find out what could be 'dissipating' in Cork street, and naturally found none :-/

The similarity between Edward Ferrar and Tom Lefroy only differs in physical features I think, because Tom has been described as 'good looking' by Jane while EF wasn't so.
