...would be far more likely to be out tramping around in muddy fields, etc. though, wouldn't he? The Bingley sisters are quite shocked that Elizabeth has been doing such a thing, but for men it was probably the norm. And a light-coloured coat would be impractical in the country, where they were when JA wrote this.
