Although Jane Auten does not often refer to clothing in her letters and novels (except perhaps NA), my impression is JA
had a regard for neatness and propriety of dress. She was herself a fine needlewoman.
Personally I think she'd be very pleased with her gift.
I imagine she would not usually afford silk stockings herself.
