Frederick & Elfrida   Written by Cheryl (7/1/2006 12:18 a.m.)

Are you new?

Now I understand the woodcut Julie posted earlier in the week, with Frederick and Elfrida mourning over poor Charlotte's grave. Oh, the hazards of being too agreeable and wishing to make everyone happy!

And I adored the description of Rebecca:

"Lovely & too charming Fair one, notwithstanding your forbidding Squint, your greazy tresses & your swelling Back, which are more frightfull than imagination can paint or pen describe, I cannot refrain from expressing my raptures, at the engaging Qualities of your Mind, which so amply atone for the Horror with which your first appearance must ever inspire the unwary visitor."

At least Captain Roger fell in love with her, though Rebecca's mother thought her too young at 36 to marry, to say nothing of Capt. Roger's tender 63 years.

Lots of fun little bits in here - if I smiled at Jack & Alice's Pammydiddle, Frederick and Elfrida's Crankhumdunberry positively made me giggle. ;-)
