'The visit'! Oh so polite! So proper!!

It seems JA really reigned herself in 'The visit'. Everything is so well curbed but the wit is there. The politeness is hilarious: -Sophy:

I do like this little piece by young JA very much!!!!
It's not clear when 'Grandmother's time' was.
One interesting bit was the grandmother din't like company; '..on account of an unfortunate impediment in her speech, which she was sensible of being very disagreable to her inmates.' I vaguely remember reading somewhere that Mr.Bigg-Wither who proposed to JA and was accepted before being rejected also had an unfortunate impediment in his speech. |
