This playlet is an old friend (freind? :) ) of mine indeed, as Austen-Leigh was so good as to put it into his Memoir. Nobody but genius could begin with "But hush; I'm interrupted", to parody conventional theatrical monologues, used to explain the audience what they should know. It was only in the 20th century that the playwrights got rid of this clumsy technique.
