Till now I have found this ...   Written by Reeba (6/26/2006 2:04 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Jack and Alice, penned by Cheryl
Are you new?

to be the closest to the JA novels.

I haven't completed it yet, read Frederic and Elfrida by mistake :-/.

The writing style is wonderful. Not a rapier but a more elegant bludgeon.

The way it starts,
"Mr. Johnson was **once upon a time** about 53; in a twelvemonth afterwards he was 54,.." :-D

The decription of the people behind their masks is hilarious;
And the witty Charles' **clever** guesses.

The comment that takes the cake;
"...in Sukey such superior excellence(in Charles) could only raise her envy, not her love, and Cecilia was too tenderly attached to herself to be pleased with any one besides."

Delicious!!! I am looking forward to "reading on!!"
