Phaeton overturning   Written by Sarah Lucy (6/22/2006 12:54 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Dialogue, penned by Cheryl
Are you new?

For sheer melodrama, one of my favorite parts is when Edward and Augustus's carriage overturns (Letter 13). Laura first takes the time to make lengthy moral reflections - "'What an ample subject for reflection on the uncertain Enjoyments of this World, would not that Phaeton & the Life of Cardinal Wolsey afford a thinking mind!' said I to Sophia as we were hastening to the field of Action."

While the girls are revelling in their own grief by fainting and runninng mad, Edward's last words are surprisingly to the point, compared with his earlier speeches. "Laura... I fear I have been overturned." Perhaps his literal fall from grace knocked some sense into him!
I also loved Laura's ravings after Edward died - that whole scene would be really fun to act out.
