I had a different reading   Written by Tracy W (6/21/2006 12:58 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, L&V and NA: Filial Disobedience, penned by Cheryl
Are you new?

I had a different reading of filial disobedience in L&F. I thought JA was mocking it - through making Laura ridiculous in how she approves absolutely of filial disobedience as a duty in itself.

It is very funny though:

The very circumstance of his being her father's choice too, was so much in his disfavour, that had he been deserving her in every other respect, yet that of itself ought to have been a sufficient reason in the Eyes of Janetta for rejecting him. (chpt 12).
