Are you new?

JA at age 14 (and the daughter of a clergyman) certainly had an extensive knowledge of the scandalous troubles that people could get into. But the meanness behind it seems a bizarre creation, sometimes. What an imagination.

(As with Catherine Morland -- perhaps this comes from reading gothic novels?) ;-p
