For obvious reasons...*snort*

Was it Bridget Brophy or D.D. Devlin in the book Jane Austen and Education who put forward the theroy that JA developed her idiosyncratic style of spelling so she would never be considered talented enough to suffer the fate of being employedas a governess( for who would employ a governess who couldn't spell?)

I have no idea if this theory holds water or if there is any proof to support it, but I do find it interesting ;-)
