in consequence of the missive, Middle Size?, penned by Robbin
In my OWC edition, there is an endnote that says: "JA in her later fiction always concerns herself with height" (Catherine and Other Writings, p. 315). There is a reference to other notatons about height within the Juvenilia ("a proper height") and references to Jane Fairfax in Emma being a "pretty" height " 'just such as almost anybody would think tall, and nobody think very tall.' Harriet Smith is apparently short, though Emma's drawing gives her ideal stature" (Catherine 327).
