The Dudleys and a connection to Queen Mary.   Written by Mandy N (8/26/2004 9:39 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Here's what it says in Goldsmtih:, penned by JulieW
Are you new?

I believe Lady Jane's husband, Guildford Dudley was the younger brother of Robert Dudley the favourite of Elizabeth I.

However, he had already married a gentlewoman, Amy Robsart so his father could not use him to marry Lady Jane.
Probably the marriage saved his life although I believe he spent the rest of Mary's reign in the Tower.

I don't think he was grateful for his luck as he tired of Amy and wouldn't bring her to Elizabeth's court.
Then there was a scandel about Amy's death which I think remains a mystery.
At one time Elizabeth suggested Robert Dudley as next husband for Mary, Queen of Scots.
