I'll try another one.. Edward III   Written by Carolyn (8/20/2004 12:14 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Why start with Henry 4th?, penned by Carolyn
Are you new?

Edward the Third (the confessor)

Edward was both a king and a saint, the only Englishman to hold both offices. He commissioned Westminster Abbey to be built and is quite properly buried there. There where many people in his life whose name also began with Ed- but they are too numerous to mention besides leaving the reader in confusion as to who the actually were, so I will not bother to mention any of them. He did fail to provide a decisive heir throne, thus people named Harold, Haraald and William wanted the throne. Harold had it for while but lost it to William.

------

(PS -- The Eds, when listening to 1066, year of the conquest, it was hard going to figure out who was who -- there were Edwards, Edwins, Edgars, Edmunds, even Ediths)
