...is this the time the War of the Roses began, a series of 'cousins struggles' for the crown.
Henry 1V was the first Lancastrian king.

Shakespeare's plays supported the claim of Lancaster. And conventional history texts like Goldsmith's also upheld conventional history.

However, like Catherine Morland, Jane found history 'the quarrels of popes and kings, with wars or pestilences' simply tiresome and boring.
