] I don't know what to think. It would appear that this is what Shakespeare is saying and, if so, it is, indeed, very scary.

I agree that it's scary, but just remember that it's only been fifty years or so that humanity in general has started to move away from the idea that the greatest thing a country and its leader can do is to build the biggest empire possible!

Shakespeare also seems to be saying that it's downright unmanly for Hamlet not to pursue revenge (as opposed to justice) against his uncle, and I don't think that's something we believe in today, either!
