] He may not have become a warrior king, but I believe he would have been a sensitive, thinking, capable and beloved king.

I believe every bit of that is true. So what is the meaning behind the fact that it is Fortinbras that apparently will be king of Denmark? Is Shakespeare saying that it is the King Hamlets and the King Fortinbrases who ultimately make the best rulers: those who search out and fight battles for territory?

That's a pretty scary thought, at least to me.

It was probably not far from what a lot of English Renaissance folks believed: land equals power, and we need all we can get of both.
