GR: Claudius is besotted with Gertrude   Written by Ana L (5/27/2003 7:09 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Do you think that's a reason why Claudius marries Gertrude?, penned by Tanya Virginia
Are you new?

] Do you think one of the reasons Claudius married Gert was to make sure Hamlet accepted him as king? (SNIP)

I think his love for her is real but I wouldn't at all be surprised if he took into consideration her power as Queen and Hamlet's mother when he decided to take (and hoped to keep) the crown.

Having said that, though, for many people power is an aphrodisiac. Who knows if her being a reigning queen made her even more appealing in Claudius' eyes?
